Bad Logic: Bad Food and Water
Are you for the repeal of all health department ordinances?
No. The health department enforces health ordinances that revolve around preventing fraud; specifically, regulations against actions which kill you quickly. When people go to a restaurant, they expect that the food won't have them hospitalized or dead within 24 hours. They do not regulate behaviors that are self-inflicted by the consumer; they do not regulate the amount of fat, sugar (or high fructose corn syrup), or carbohydrates in a meal.
A number of national food chains have had their dishes scrutinized. A number of items contained over 2000 calories, the daily maximum for the average adult, in a single dish. A couple were in the 4000 calorie range. If you consume a 4000 calorie meal often enough, it will create a serious health risk.
Many see the "next step" as the regulation what foods people may consume. We have seen this "next step" in New York and California, where smoking bans started. In 2008, a Louisville Metro-Councilperson proposed a ban on trans-fat. It is a slippery-slope.
Every consumer has a choice between the Super-ultra-sized meal, and the salad with low-fat dressing, just like they can choose to go to a smoking establishment, or not.
